Where: Jervis Bay
When: May 2008
Event: Shoalhaven Whale Naming Competition – Adopt a Whale –
The Humpback Whale Migration Icon Project aims to raise awareness of the threats facing our whales and to generate action to protect these whales.
Specifically, the Humpback Whale Migration Icon Project helps and encourages coastal communities along the eastern seaboard of Australia to celebrate the annual humpback whale migration by ‘adopting’ a whale as their local whale.
The Shoalhaven community has the opportunity to name a local whale by submitting a name and meaning for the name online at www.marinemammalresearch.com
The name will be selected by the Shoalhaven Whale Naming Committee and the winning name will become the official name registered with the Humpback Whale Migration Icon Project along with the name of the winner and meaning of the name.
