Event: The National Day of Action to Protect Whales (NDA) is a day of protest in response to the Japanese so-called ‘scientific’ whaling program (JARPA II) where hundreds of whales, including endangered species are killed in the name of science in the Southern Ocean. .It is an annual event supported by IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), WADWA (Whale and Dolphin Watch Australia), and whale watch operators around Australia as well as a large number of interested and concerned members of the community.
The first NDA, initiated by Vicki Neville of Hervey Bay, was held in 2006 with the participation of eight Australian coastal communities – Hervey Bay, Noosa, Sydney, Eden, Port Macquarie, Port Stephens, Augusta and Victor Harbour.
This day also launched the 50 for 50 Project
